Releases and Version Tags

Every GoodData.CN version carries a tag that tells you how stable it is, how long it is maintained, and whether it is safe to run in production. The tag appears next to the version number in the version picker at the top of this documentation and in the versions archive. Check it before you deploy, because it determines how often you upgrade and how much change each upgrade brings.

TagWhat it meansRecommended use
StableA production-ready release from the monthly release cycle.Run it if you want new capabilities as soon as they ship.
LTSA stable release designated as a long-term support line and maintained with patches.Run it if you prioritize low change risk and infrequent upgrades.
PreviewAn early release that is not yet stable and may contain bugs.Test upcoming features with it, outside production.
LockedA withdrawn release with known bugs or security issues.Do not run it. Upgrade to a supported release.

Stable Releases

Stable releases come out monthly. Each one can add features, change behavior, and introduce new Helm chart values. Run this channel if you want early access to new capabilities and can absorb a regular upgrade cycle.

Every release is described in the release notes. Before you upgrade, check Upgrade GoodData.CN for version-specific steps.

LTS Releases

An LTS release is a stable release that GoodData designates as a stability-focused line and then maintains with patches. GoodData designates roughly two LTS releases per year. Once an LTS release ships, its line receives critical bug fixes and security updates. Features, usability, and behavior stay as they were on the day the line was designated.

Run LTS if you need predictable maintenance windows and want to upgrade once or twice a year rather than monthly. The trade-off is that new features reach you only when you move to the next LTS release.

Backports to an LTS release are available by request to select customers. Contact GoodData to learn more.

Preview Releases

A preview release gives you early access to features before they reach a stable release. It is not held to the same stability standard: it can contain bugs and unresolved issues, and the features it introduces can still change before they ship.

Use a preview release to evaluate upcoming functionality in a test environment. Do not run one in production, and do not plan a production upgrade path around it.

Locked Releases

A locked release is no longer available and must not be used. GoodData locks a release when it turns out to contain bugs or security issues serious enough that running it is a risk. The documentation for a locked version stays online for reference, but the release itself is withdrawn.

If you are running a version that has since been locked, upgrade to a supported stable or LTS release.

Support Window

GoodData maintains patches for the latest stable release and the two most recent LTS lines. Patches for LTS lines are delivered on demand for critical security issues and bug fixes.

For production, run either the latest stable release or a supported LTS release. Older releases outside the support window receive no fixes, including security fixes.
