Build Dashboards with AI Assistant
Experimental Feature
Dashboard building with the AI Assistant is an experimental feature. Its behavior and supported actions may change. Your organization must have the feature enabled before you can use it.
You can use the AI Assistant to create and update GoodData dashboards with natural-language instructions. Describe the information you want to see, and the Assistant uses available workspace metrics and visualizations to prepare a dashboard that you can review, refine, and save.
You can create a dashboard from scratch or make changes to an existing one. This functionality is available to users with the required dashboard editing permissions and access to an AI agent that includes the dashboard-building skill.
Create a Dashboard with AI Assistant
You can describe the business question you want to answer or list the metrics and breakdowns you need. The Assistant prepares an editable dashboard draft using your workspace’s available analytical content.
- Open Dashboards and start creating a dashboard.
- In the AI Assistant, enter a request. For example, “Create a sales performance dashboard with net sales, orders, gross profit, and active customers by country.”
- Review the dashboard draft created by the Assistant. You can continue the conversation to request changes or additions.
- Review the dashboard on the canvas. In edit mode, you can manually move, resize, or remove widgets and make other supported edits.
- Save the dashboard when you are satisfied with the result.
Update an Existing Dashboard
You can use the AI Assistant to add or remove content on an existing dashboard without rebuilding it. For example, you can request an additional visualization, change a breakdown, remove a widget, or adjust a standard dashboard filter.
- Open the dashboard you want to update, or start a conversation in the AI Assistant.
- Describe the change. For example, “Add net sales by product category to the Sales Performance dashboard.”
- Review the Assistant’s response. If it provides an action to open the updated dashboard, use it to view the proposed change in edit mode.
- Check the result, make any additional edits, and save the dashboard.
Work with New Metrics and Visualizations
The Assistant can reuse existing metrics and visualizations or prepare new analytical content when needed for the dashboard. If the metric you request does not exist, the Assistant can propose creating it from available workspace data. You can clarify the metric definition or skip that part of your request.
For example, ask “Add monthly churn rate for the past year.” The Assistant can prepare the relevant content and place it in the dashboard draft when enough information is available. You can then inspect the result on the dashboard canvas before saving.
Newly generated metrics and visualizations can remain part of the draft while you refine it. When you save a dashboard containing new analytical objects, review the information shown about those objects before confirming the save.
Use the AI Assistant Edge Panel
The AI Assistant can open in an edge panel alongside the dashboard. The panel is docked on the side of the screen, and the dashboard area adjusts so that the panel does not cover its content. This allows you to inspect and edit the dashboard while continuing the conversation.
During dashboard creation, the Assistant can initially occupy a larger view and switch to the Edge Panel when the dashboard is ready for review. You can use the panel for follow-up requests and close it when you want more space for the dashboard.
The Edge Panel is a separate experimental feature. It can also be used from other supported AI Assistant entry points and is enabled independently of dashboard building.
Availability and Configuration
Dashboard building with the AI Assistant and the Edge Panel are separate capabilities. Both require access to the GoodData AI add-on and must be enabled for your organization.
You must also have the appropriate dashboard editing permissions and access to an AI agent that allows the dashboard-building skill. If the feature is not available, contact your organization administrator.
Current Limitations
- The feature is experimental, and some dashboard changes may still require manual editing.
- Changes are not permanent until you save the dashboard. Leaving without saving preserves the previously saved version.
- You cannot drag a widget directly from the Assistant conversation to a specific position on the dashboard canvas. You can adjust its placement in dashboard edit mode.
- Creating dashboard drilldowns through natural-language instructions is not supported in this release.
AI-generated content may contain mistakes. Before saving or sharing a dashboard, verify its metrics, filters, and visualizations.
