Radar Chart
Beta Feature
This is a beta feature. It is still in active development and not yet recommended for use in production.
Radar charts show multivariate data on axes that start from the same point and extend outward in a circular layout. Each attribute value is displayed as one spoke, and metric values are plotted along the spokes and connected into a shape. This makes radar charts useful for comparing relative strengths, weaknesses, or profiles across several categories.
Radar charts are commonly used to compare performance by product category, evaluate scores across competencies, analyze survey results, or compare multiple entities across the same set of dimensions. For example, a radar chart can show the number of orders across product categories and make it easy to see which categories perform above or below the others.
Radar charts have the following sections:
- Metrics
- View by
- Segment by
- Configuration
The View by section defines the spokes of the radar chart. Each value of the selected attribute becomes one axis around the chart.
Use the Segment by section to compare multiple series in the same radar chart. Each segment is displayed as a separate shape, making it possible to compare profiles across groups.
In radar charts, you can also:
In Configuration > Colors and fills, choose how the chart is rendered:
- Filled: Displays the area inside the connected data points with a fill color.
- Line: Displays only the outline connecting the data points.
In Configuration > Colors and fills > Fill, choose how chart areas are displayed:
- Solid: Uses a solid color fill.
- Pattern fill: Replaces solid colors with patterns. This makes values easier to tell apart because they differ by both color and texture.
- Outline fill: Tones down solid colors and shows emphasized outlines. This style is useful when you want to improve contrast and separation between overlapping series.
In Configuration > Grid, change the gridline shape:
- Spiderweb: Displays gridlines as polygonal rings that follow the chart spokes.
- Circle: Displays gridlines as circular rings.
In Configuration > Grid, show or hide chart labels:
- Spoke labels: Show or hide labels for the attribute values around the chart.
- Radial labels: Show or hide labels for the metric scale.
In Configuration > Grid > Scale, set custom Min and Max values for the radial scale. Leave the fields set to auto to let GoodData determine the scale automatically.
In Configuration > Legend, choose the legend position. The legend is available when the chart contains multiple series.
In Configuration > Canvas, configure how data is displayed:
- Data Labels: Show or hide metric values in the chart.
- Labels Style: Choose the label style. You can use Backplate to add a background behind chart labels. This makes labels easier to read because the backplate creates higher contrast with the chart colors.
- Data Points: Show or hide markers for individual values.
For information about common characteristics and settings of all visualizations, see the Visualization Types section.
